Great Waltham, Chelmsford
At the time I was a busy mother of 4 and could not get child care so decided to organise a peace rally in our church where those of us who could not go to London to march got together for the day – people could come and write a message on a white dove card which we strung up round the church, there was a mediation corner with every religion’s prayer for peace to read, candles could be lit and people could talk. We ended the afternoon with the release of two white doves. It was filmed by ITV Anglia.
It was a very special day – we really felt that we were really doing something to be part of it. We were all elated – needless to say my spirits dove down to the depths when it was proved that what the people wanted was of no consequence – that we were going to war regardless. I am going to see this film to acknowledge the effort and conviction of so many in the hope that should we ever need to do so again, we will rise up and be counted!
