I remember that day vividly… I was 14 years old and the previous day was at school, following the usual friday rota o learning. Many ov the students, including myself had a secret agenda however, we had been spending our lunch hour and the night before making No more war, No war in Iraq and Peace signs… the time to use them was approaching.
My French lesson was about to begin and we were all ready. As soon as our teacher started talking we all quietly left our seats without acknowledging her, met up with the groups amassing outside and climbed onto the roof of the building with our signs. There were approximately 100 students who did the same and many more cheering us on from below as we spent the rest of the afternoon protesting for what was right, and I have no regrets.
The very next day I joined a town protest and vigil against the war, holding on to my No war sign created in secret durung my Art lesson, I will never forget that day for the lessons that it taught us about public opinion on the matter and for the way communities and people from all walks of life got together for the same cause as one.
