We travelled by coach from Rochdale and knew that this was going to be a special day by the dozens of similar coaches we saw on the motorway and at the Warwick services where first we lost one of our party and then ‘rescued’ a man left behind by his own coach. In London, it seemed that everyone was heading for the march and, in fact, we soon got stuck in the enormous crowd and needed in the end to take to the backstreets to find a way to our coach home. The irony was that we ended-up behind the police cordon supposedly ‘protecting’ the US embassy and had to ask permission to get to the other side! We had protestested against wars before. We opposed the war on 15 February 2003. And we have been protesting against war ever since. The significance of 15 February 2003 is that it cemented alliances of likeminded people and taught us what is possible, if we work together.
