Woke up that day and thought to myself.. I have to get down there! But I needed a sign, So I used a mop handle taped w/cardboard. & then I printed out the image that summed things up for me.. a cartoon of a Guantanamo Bay prisoner, orange suit on, kneeling in chains, blind folded w/ his ears also covered, all senses blocked. And on his back was a huge yellow “Have a nice day’ Smiley Face.
Then I took the tube to the Thames & marched till it was dark. I was actually shocked as the police (and there were many) were there to protect us, not to arrest us, not to stop us from marching as they did to my New York friends. I’m an American and I found that unforgivable that all the protests in the US were met with such policeFORCE. Not here in London as our right to protest is just that… our ‘right’. How could NYC get it so wrong?
It was an amazing day, but even now as our planes bomb Syria along with Russia I think yes, a great day.. but ultimately it did nothing because the powers that be are untouchable. Every decision is financially driven and those in charge don’t answer to the people. It is so sad. But hopefully There at the very least be war crimes charges brought against those who lied to the world.
