I travelled to Great Portland Street to meet up with friends who all wanted to say “NOT IN MY NAME”. We brought tamborines, maracas, a couple of drums, whistles and our own (ropey) voices. We marched south down Gower Street singing “Trim Back Your Bush!”, but Tony Bliar failed to hear us.
When I got home that evening, after catching the early part of the rally in Hyde Park, the BBC news reported ‘70,000’ protestors. Being a veteran of Notting Hill Carnival, and knowing what 1 million people on the street looks like, I’d put the figure closer to 1.5 million.
That’s when I got rid of my TV set and started finding alternative ways to keep up with the news, rather than following the state controlled media we have in the UK right now.
