Melbourne

We traveled 160 km to Melbourne, because we were determined maximize the impact of our protest….it was amazing, so many people had gathered in Federation Square, and were spilling way back along the streets, Flinders and Swanston, in both directions, more people than I had ever seen congregated in one place….of course the media reports downplayed the numbers attending, here and in every other demonstration I attended to protest the invasion….including interstate. It soon became apparent the media false reports of smaller turnouts ( roughly 50% less to my untrained eyes) were effective in discouraging people from attending future rallies, ….numbers of attendees would fall substantially, and confidence in the effectiveness of the mass demonstration as a means of influencing government waned….democracy in action, Australian style, with Prime Minister Howard repeatedly defaming protesters as ‘terrorist sympathizers’ and this seemed to further demoralize protesters
