My son was 14 at the time and determined to go on the march to protest against the impending war in Iraq. I had taken him on demonstrations against the previous invasion 10 years earlier or so, pushing him in his buggy. I was nervous about him being on the demonstration on his own, but he was adamant that he wanted to join his voice with the others, so I marched behind him at a discrete distance (you know what teenagers are like!) We were like a great tide of people surging towards the town centre. A proud moment for me to see my son standing shoulder to shoulder with his mates saying the invasion was not in their name.
